Leo Bennett

Leo came to us from a shelter in Tennessee at the age of about five and a half, if his recent age test is accurate. If he had lived one more month, he would have been with us for seven years. He quickly became the biggest mama’s boy who ever lived, taking every step Mama took around the house as long as he was able. He loved his dad so much, too. It’s hard to describe what it meant for him to give us his unwavering love and trust after previously being so wronged by humans. We loved our walks, jogs, hikes, snuggles, television marathons, and road trips together for many years. Leo was so excited to go for car rides and walks when he was able, but he was always content to snuggle on the couch. He loved his stuffed hedgehog toys and pup cups. People were often afraid of Leo due to his size and breed, but he was a big baby at heart and a goofball. We will miss laughing at his quirks. He was fiercely protective of his mama when he needed to be and made her feel so safe. He was by our side through so much joy, grief, laughter, heartache, a pandemic, pregnancy, the birth of our first child, and so much more. He was so patient with our daughter as she grew into a toddler. Our slowest heartbreak was watching our boy grow old and slow down. Eventually, his hips gave out, after years of delaying it with supplements and medications. Leo entered into rest peacefully resting his head on his mama’s leg on Friday, October 11, 2024. His death was as peaceful and beautiful as it was heartbreaking. In his last days, he enjoyed steak, eggs, cheeseburgers, and pup cups. Shortly before his passing, he enjoyed a cheeseburger and finally tasted chocolate in the form of a Hershey’s kiss. It was always going to end this way, but his loss is indescribable and so hard to bear. We will miss our Bubby, until we meet again. He was a very good boy. The very best.
